I am drawn to beautiful objects and when I found a ceramic bowl that I loved in a Sydney store in 2017, I felt I just had to meet, photograph and interview its maker - Zsolt Faludi. It was my first time to Tasmania, and I loved it so much that in 2018 I returned with my partner, Matthew, this time to the rugged, wild, and remote West Coast.

This was the beginning of a new adventure, an adventure that was not mine alone as Matthew was drawn into it too, and to his credit, embraced it with gusto, grabbed it by the horns and ran faster than me with it.

Staring out over a beautiful bay, I saw a settlement of miner’s shacks and my thoughts turned into words – “what do we have to do to get a shack around here?” These few words were all it took to set in motion a chain of events we could not resist exploring.

To me, Bushy Summers is the ultimate haven; a refuge offering peace, serenity, and anonymity from the outside world – set on nature’s doorstep, in an authentic community of other shack dwellers. What started as a simple desire to create has turned into much more. Not only something that we can enjoy but also a place we can share with other like-minded travellers looking for hidden gems.
